18.

I felt slightly unfulfilled today. While the rest of the nyams+nyamlet in tow went to the kelong, I helped Lianne complete her application form to run for council this whole afternoon, which climaxed in my genius idea of spelling MONKEYS with the first letters of each sentence of her answer to the question: describe the batch of 2010. Twas an idea which both she and I presumptiously assumed was a "brilliant" display of wit. Mistakenly so. When we presented our masterpiece to the world (ie. Yanka, Yi Loong and Uncle Yew Huat) we found that the world failed to share our enthusiasm. But she has thursday until she has to hand it in so she still has time to change it luckily. Although I maintain that it's one of my finer ideas, albeit fueled by Lianne's comment that her cohort was a bunch of monkeys. We just need to find a new sample group, right? Right??!! RIGHT!???!!

I have also begun the stroke-inducing-type-calibre-of-exciting countdown in the title to meeting-slash-marrying Ethan Hawke. I don't actually like him in actual fact. But it's a story to tell the grankids.

Darren also very kindly lent me 2 graphic novels today, which I took home proudly to my parents to prove to them that I do in fact have friends. Although my dad seemed to fail to grasp the concept of the sophistication involved in a graphic novel.

Me: Dad! Darren lent me these 2 graphic novels!
Dad: What's that?
Me: Graphic novels. Like novels but dramatised in pictorial representations of the plot.
Dad: ... So comics lah.
Me: No, they have a story. It's just drawn out in detail. Like storyboards.
Dad: So.... comics lah.

My mother seemed equally unimpressed.

Me: Darren lent me these 2 graphic novels!
Mum: Oh. (pause) Why are you still wearing your sweater? Not hot ah?
Me: Not really. Lianne's house and tanglin club and taka had air con.
Mum: And graphic what?
Me: Graphic novels.
Mum: GRAPHIC??!! (looks alarmed and then at the graphic novels) Oh comic lah.
